Artist's Inspirations: My second
trip to France was through the Perigord Dordogne
region. This is a region of fois gras farms &
serious truffle hunting. The Dordogne is very
different from Provence. The Dordogne is
lusher & greener and has more rivers. On every
precipice and high point along the mighty rivers are
the remains of the 11th & 12'th century castles of
France's feudal lords and the site of many battles.
But lets get back to pigs and ducks! I love the
French farms and the farmyard animals. They use pigs
to hunt for the truffles, and we know where fois
gras comes from. As you can see in my painting
"Three Geese", they are seriously considering if
this is a farm that they want to visit. The bee hive
shaped farm houses in the background are very old
stone houses typical of this region.
