This set of martini paintings are also bas-relief sculptures. The martini glass, shaker, olives and lemons I first sculpted in low relief with plaster on board. The relief is only about 1/8" but it gives a whole other dimension to the painting. After sculpting, I painted it in pure egg tempera. I make my own paint from crushed stone and egg yolk. This is a very old method and lasts for centuries. I am the only artist in North America with this technique. The gold color is natural yellow ocher which I collect from the ancient mines in France. The green comes from the earth around Verona Italy. I finish the frame also in egg tempera to perfectly compliment the painting. The paintings have been lightly sealed with a special archival spray varnish to protect them.
