| The fleurs di lys are lightly
sculpted by the artist in 1/8" bas-relief. The entire artwork
is covered in copper on which I created the
beautiful warm reddish patina and a
green/blue patina around each fleur de lys.
It is fully sealed and ready to hang on your
wall. It has been designed as a frameless work
of art, it comes out from the wall about 3/4" of
an inch The beauty and shimmering effects of
the pure copper is hard to capture in a
photograph. As you move in the room, the artwork
shimmers and comes to life. This is an original

How this artwork was created
In creating this artwork I utilized several things I discovered when
working with my glass and copper pieces and applied it
to creating a metal wall art piece. This artwork
combines my bas-relief sculpting technique with
copper metal work, patina effects and egg tempera
paint.

In this
first stage I have sculpted the fleurs di lys in
copper relief. My next step will be to
start a patina process with heat to darken the
copper to a rich burnished color |

This show the start of my patina
process. Here is am using a heat process to get
rich deep copper colors. Its a very
serendipitous way of working, you don't have as
much control as you do with paint. You are
leaving much of it up to nature and surprise.

Meaning of fleur de lis:
The fleur de lis is a stylized lily. Fleur means flower in french and lis means lily. It has long been used in history for everything from decorative ornaments to kings and military insignia. Most recently it has made a resurgence in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina as a symbol of support for the recovery. In July 2008 the fleur-de-lis became the official symbol of the state of Louisiana
