Artist's Inspirations: I am a westerner! I grew up in the prairies and country fields of Saskatchewan. It was a time of complete freedom. When we were kids, we we gone all day and biked everywhere in the country. As soon as we could drive, we were really gone! I spend many a summer exploring the abandoned farmhouses and walking in the fields. The spirit of the prairie is in my soul.

I entitled this large western painting "Anywhere USA" because it looks this the entire front range along the Rocky Mountains. I now live in Colorado and my art studio looks over fields and the front range of the Rockies. I wanted to capture the power and intenseness of the front range fields & mountains.

The humble beginnings of Anywhere USA
I was born in the west and its in my blood. Westerners are a dichotomous bunch, on the one hand we love wide open spaces, freedom and privacy, on the other hand we are social creatures and seek out relationships, but yet need huge blocks of time alone. We don't like large crowds or people around all the time, yet love a good party!

I am hoping this piece will capture the power and freedom of the west. My Colorado studio backs onto the front range of the Rocky Mountains. There are prairie fields for several miles and then the Rockies rise out of the earth.

I have started to add the mountains and deepen some of the sky color

Its a tough decision whether to put clouds into the sky or just leave it blue. I just don't know at this point.

I am not putting much snow on the mountains because I am willing spring to come! Its still very cold and snowy here.

The painting is coming along nicely. I decided to add clouds to the blue sky. I still want to add some barbed wire fencing, tumbleweeds and grasses into the foreground. The tumbleweeds are forever getting stuck in the fence at my studio. When they go to seed, lookout, they are prolific! I am forever pulling little tumbleweed plants out of my gardens.
